WHALEFALL
When a whale dies, its body floats down to the deeper levels of the ocean. This is called a whale fall. These sites can support the ecosystem of the deep sea for decades.

Whalefall is a short animated film exploring the benefits that whale falls provide to deep sea life. Spanning 4 minutes, the animation is hand-drawn and follows the narrative of a fish from the shallows finding itself in the deep sea, watching how the creatures it meets benefit from the whale fall. The animation is accompanied by merchandise including a sticker sheet and an activity book. The project is aimed primarily at children aged 6-11, but aims to be enjoyable to anyone.

Whalefall is my final project submission for my Bachelor's in Graphic Design. The project is entirely self led.
I wanted to use this opportunity to explore my passion for hand-drawn animation and try my own hand and creating a short film. Whalefall was animated in Adobe Animate. Backgrounds, accompanying art and still assets were drawn separately in art programs.
